Division Leadership Team

Hello Division 21 Hippos!

It is an honor to be serving you all for the 2016-2016 term and I am ecstatic for the many things we will be able to acomplish. I've been in Key Club for the past 3 years and nothing can compare to the joy and happiness I've experienced in this organization.

I hope to have a sucessful year with you all and to reach milestones. If there are any help or advice you need, please free feel to talk to me. I love to build connections with everybody and I am looking forward to getting to know you all!

Emily Van

Division 21 Lieutenant Governer

Hello!! My name is Johnathan Nguyen. I am serving alongside Paul Hoang and Diane Phengdy as one of three Executive Assistants for Division 21’s 2015-2016 term. I am extremely thrilled to fulfill all of the duties and tasks of this position and to help our Lieutenant Governor, Emily Van, keep our division at its absolute best. I ran for this position because ever since I’ve joined key club, there have been past DLT officers that I’ve looked up to as a member. EA was always something that interested me, but I never thought I could do it. I ran for this position because I wanted to not only fill in the shoes from the previous term, but to inspire and welcome new, incoming key clubbers. To me, service is helping others because you want to help others. I serve my community because it brings a smile to my face knowing that I’ve made a difference, whether big or small. Service is not service if you are forced into doing something, which is why I gladly serve this division to the best of my ability. One thing that I want to see changed in the division is member attendance at my home schools. I want to utilise what I learn being Executive Assistant by promoting service events more efficiently and effectively, hopefully in a way that encourages more members to attend events or even DCMs. Reactivating clubs is another goal of mine that I aspire to achieve.

Johnathan Nguyen

Executive Assistant

Hello, Hippos! My name is Diane Phengdy and I am honored to be serving as one of D21's Executive Assistants for the new and exciting 15-16 term. Currently, I am a freshman at University City High School. I'm also a full-time Strawberry Princess who likes long naps, drawing, and helping others! I look forward to working closely with everyone as we strive to bring this division to success! I applied for EA because I genuinely care for the division and truly wanted to help out. I felt like EA would be the best division for me to apply for because I wanted to be involved as much as possible To me service means that I've made a difference.  I like knowing that I used to oppurtunity to help someone! I would regret not being able to do something when I have the potential to. I hope to strengthen my bond with everyone to create a stronger division! Not only that, but I would like to promote more service and bring out the best in everyone.

Hello Division 21 Hippos! If we haven’t already met, I am Kathy Ha and I will be serving as the Fundraising Task and Project Coordinator for Division 21’s 2015-2016. I am currently a sophomore and have been in Key Club at Patrick Henry High School for two years now. Throughout this term, I will work alongside LTG Emily Van to fundraise for the many charities we’re partnered with and also create many Divisional events/projects for YOU hippos! I am excited to serve all of you a great term and hope to see you all at future events! I initially didn’t apply to be on the Divisional Leadership Team, but I’m happy to have been given the opportunity and was appointed by LTG Emily. I’m more than grateful to serve any position given to me. Moments like these make me realize every person has a purpose in life, and I can positively say mine is serving others. Service is my life. Being able to serve my home, school, and community is the best feeling ever. Something such as helping a friend in need, serving on a committee, volunteering, donating to or supporting a cause can make huge impacts. Every service opportunity offers a unique experience that can’t be found elsewhere. Key Club has reassured me that my purpose is serving others, and nothing will stop me from achieving my goal. I plan to work alongside LTG Emily and the rest of the Divisional Leadership Team and create many service project opportunities and raise funds for PTP and Eliminate. This being my second year on the Divisional Leadership Team, I hope to help out the Division with my past experiences and serve a great term.

Calvin Nguyen

Head Spirit Coordinator

My name is Calvin Nguyen, and I'm a sophomore at Patrick Henry High School. I love hanging outside of my house, hanging out with m friends or doing something rather than staying at home doing nothing. Every chance I get to go out, I take it. I love trying new foods and enjoing old foods such as ramen, wings, burritos, etc. I'm also athletic and I love playing sports and staying healthy and active. I play footbal and dance. I've been playing football for four years, two out of high school and two in and this is my first year on a dance team. Moving towards my personalities, I'm very energetic, humorous, optimistic but a hard worker, smart, and serious. I have so many goals as head spirit coordinator for this upcoming term. Some major goals that have for this term are organizing a fun and productive spirit days, winning the spirit stick at RTC and FRS, and maybe DCON, and most importantl, to make a memorable experience for the division I serve. I'm looking forward to so many things. I am looking forward to meet and get to know people in and out of our division. Also, looking forward to see how this division grow and how it's going to be by the end of the year. But the biggest thing is making a difference and or change the division I serve. I will try my best to do as much as I can, to make the division better and improve.

Hello my name is Vivian Phan and I am one of the Spirit Chairs and Vice President at Mira Mesa High School. I recently retired as historian for the 2014-2015 term. I am very excited to help lead and make cheers for the Division and have many happy and memorable moments together. This will be my third year since I first joined Key Club and I couldn't be any happier. I applied for the Spirit Committee because I want our Division to grow a close bond and to have fun together through ice breakers and cheers. I want members to feel like they belong somewhere and I want to show them how great it is to be a part of Key Club through spirit. Service is what volunteers to help the community. It isn't a job, it is a drive that volunteers have to better society. Some plans I have in mind are to be more in touch with every member and help them get out of their shell. I also want to help them feel the strength of the division while we shout our cheers in the stands, and be astounded by our power. I want everyone to feel as if we were one big family.

Vivian Vy Phan

Spirit Chair

My name is Sufyan Ali and I am looking forward to serve the division as a member of the Spirit chair for the 2015 – 2016 term. During my years in key club I was able to become a dedicated member and the opportunity to serve the community and impact the lives of others. I wish to continue serving with honor and be the best spirit chair as I can be. My goal is to revive the spirit within our members, to keep them positive and psyched. The way I would increase our spirit is by holding more socials, make the division more integrated, allow the members to express themselves making everyone closer. In my home club it feels like a family I would like more members to feel that way.

Sofia Valirova

Spirit Chair

Hello, my name is Sofia Valirova. I am one of the Spirit Chairs of this term. I am currently a junior at Kearny International Business. This is my second year in Key Club. The reason I decided to join is because I have always loved helping people in any way I can. I was looking for a club where I knew I could do that, but also be surrounded by an amazing group of people who made me feel welcome. Key Club was the perfect place. To me service is giving back to your community, but also being able to touch people’s lives with the help you provide for them. Key Club is the best place experience that, but to also grow as an individual and a leader. Which brings me to why I ran for the position I hold. I’ve always been a cheerful and energetic person, so I wanted to bring that positive energy to the whole division. I decided to run for Spirit Chair and see what happens. Little did I know I was going to become part of DLT and I’m so glad I am. I also believe that it will help me become a stronger leader for the benefit of others. As for my plans for the division, I not only plan to make events more spirited, but I also have intentions of taking that spirit and using it for other good as well. Such as letting people feel included and comfortable to be themselves. Which will hopefully lead them to want to be more active members and do more service. I’m so excited for this new term, so get ready because it’s going to be great one!
